Marsden Clinic is a Mixed Billing Practice.

Unfortunately, Medicare rebate amounts are not increasing at a pace that reflects the cost of providing high quality healthcare.

To account for rising costs, Marsden Clinic has changed from bulk billing to mixed billing.

‘Bulk Billing’ is when a doctor bills Medicare directly for the services provided to you, this allows you to have no out of pocket expenses. If you are bulk billed, the doctor has accepted the Medicare rebate as full payment for the health care provided to you.

Medicare is a public health insurance scheme and provides rebates (support payments) to you when you access eligible health services, such as visiting your GP. The Medicare rebate for GP consultations is now less than 50% of the fee recommended by Australian National Medical Associations.

For the benefit of the patients, Marsden Clinic have absorbed this cost to date, however this is no longer sustainable.  This is the case for many general practice clinics across Australia in 2023.

Mixed billing is when a patient pays for the consultation.

Medicare card holders are able to claim a rebate from Medicare for part of the fees you have paid.

How much does it costs to see a GP?

Our practice will continue to bulk bill all Senior Pensioners, Disability Pensioners, Veteran Affairs, Health Care Card Holders and children under 16 years old.
* Saturday appointments - Dr Nolan  (Private billing- no bulk billing available)
                                                 - Dr Boubaris, Dr Hussain, Dr Guha, Dr Siva  (Mixed billing)

Non concessional card holders:

All consultations are time-based and attract a fee.  Fees are payable at the time of consultation and accounts will not be given.

The AMA fee structure forms the basis of the billing policy and doctors charge the fees that reflect the time taken and degree of complexity in each consultation.

GPs set their own fees and some may choose to bill a higher or a lower fee.  Please do not assume that GPs will agree to lower fees (e.g. to bulk bill you) because their colleague does.  Billing decisions are made by individual GPs and not by reception.

Additional fees may be payable for minor surgery, dressings, pregnancy tests, ECG's, Spirometry and ABI's. Medicare offsets some of the costs, but it does not cover every type of appointment and there are gap fees for most services.

Referrals require an appointment  at our practice. Your Doctor will need to see you to check on the ongoing need for the referral and update your specialist about your progress. Please ensure your referral is up to date (check with your specialist) as it is illegal to backdate referrals.

Reserved Appointments

We do reserve appointments for “book on the day”.

These appointments are available from 7.30am for patients who need medical attention as their condition may have deteriorated or who have become ill overnight. Please book in advance for routine care.
